Keeping Hope Alive Gala night
It is believed that there are currently over 2 million cancer patients in the country and according to WHO, Nigeria has the worst cancer death rate in Africa. At this point in time, survivorship of most cancers is only 20% due to late diagnosis. This by inference means that 80% of patients cannot afford the necessary care both in awareness, diagnosis or treatment. Cancer ranks as the second highest life-threatening illness and even when cancers are picked up by the screening services, the cost of treatment is prohibitive to most and their cultural ideology and religious beliefs do suggest that this illness can put many families in crisis situations. Hence, the reason for “Keeping Hope Alive Gala Night”
The BRICON Foundation in partnership with The Wheat Baker Hotel have this annual fundraising event to raise funds for cancer patients who cannot afford treatment.

Training
In a country where medical care in general is grossly inadequate, bad news in any
health situation is traumatic and devastating and it is therefore expedient that all healthcare professionals (and not just those working in the cancer space) develop a skill in BREAKING BAD NEWS.
The BRICON Foundation and Macmillan Cancer Support UK have developed a world class training workshop to address this. To date we have trained over 250 doctors, nurses and care workers from Private and Government facilities as well as NGO care workers in this important area.

KKIS (Keeping Kids In School)
The BRICON Foundation had identified that, one of the worries of cancer patients was, “What will happen to my child’s future, if anything happens to me ?”
Thanks to a partnership with the Lebanese Ladies Society, our foundation has been able to provide educational support for some of our beneficiaries’ children.
Cancer Awareness and Advocacy
The BRICON Foundation in partnership with SAGE took to the streets of Lagos Island to create awareness about cancer patients support and also campaign for early detection.

Health Seminar
The BRICON Foundation in a bid to further engage our support groups (The BRICON Whole Woman | Help For Husbands) have a monthly interactive seminar on key topics for both cancer patients and their families.
Family Day Out
Thanks to the kind support from Epe Resorts and Spa , we had our first “Help 4 Husbands” Family day out, where 17 fathers and their children had a day filled with games and activities at the resort. This is planned become an annual event
